When to Go
September to March is the best time, when you can enjoy greenery without the accompanying rains. If you are a bird watcher, this also the time to spot migrant birds. Summer (March to May) though hot, is also good for wildlife spotting. When water gets low and the grass dries out, animals, especially elephants come down to the Periyar lake to bath and frolic in the waters along with young ones. June to August is best suited for monsoon tourism, to enjoy torrential rains of these tropical forests.
